"“The commitment and professionalism shown both by the young people who were performing and those who organise and run the CYWO is incredible and everyone concerned is to be commended. So oftern young people are seen in a negative light and it was an absolute pleasure to have the privilidge of attending such an event. These young people showed amazig talent and real commitment, whilst at the same time studying for exams and only meeting up a few times during the year. We are already looking forward to next year and being involved with this wonderful organisation and the people who make it all possible.”

- Performance by Cornwall Youth Wind Orchestra (CYWO) at Carnglaze Caverns
Cornwall Youth Wind Orchestra
CYWO was formed in September 1985. Over the years, the orchestra has performed at the Edinburgh Festival and Blackheath, London. Concert programmes have covered a wide range of symphonic band music drawn from classical, romantic and twentieth century repertoire.
Membership of the Orchestra is open to musicians aged 11-21 who live or attend school/college in Cornwall. Often students who go on to University or College out of Cornwall remain in the orchestra for another one or two years. Entry to the orchestra is by audition. In order that a reasonable balance between sections can be maintained, entry standards may differ between one instrument and another. As a rough guide players need to be Grade 5 before applying.
Application forms which include more details on the orchestra and commitment involved can be obtained from Music Cornwall. Auditions occur in June each year.
