Wider Opportunities
Learning Music Together
Since 2007, Music Cornwall has been involved in the strategic development of the Wider Opportunities Programme. This programme, funded by the Department for Education, followed the government’s pledge that every child should have the opportunity to learn to play a music instrument at Key Stage 2. The delivery was usually based on a large group or whole class instrumental tuition lesson for 45 minutes over a minimum of one term.
Following on from the success of the Wider Opportunities programme, which we delivered to over 200 primary schools in Cornwall, Music Cornwall is offering instrumental learning for up to 30 pupils and their teacher across Key Stages 1-3. The purpose of this programme, ‘Learning Music Together’, is to not only provide the whole class with instrumental teaching but also to develop the skills and knowledge of the classroom teacher and to enable them to feel more confident in delivering music making activities.
The standard Learning Music Together package offers 10 weekly 45 minute sessions for the total cost of £195. Each session will be delivered by one Music Cornwall tutor and will consist of 30 minutes of contact/delivery time and 15 minutes set up time. Longer sessions or small school cluster sessions may be arranged upon request. Initially, this programme will be available until the end of Summer Term 2012.
Learning Music Together can be delivered on any instrument which schools received previously under the Wider Opportunities programme. These instruments include: violin, viola, cello, guitar, percussion, recorder, fife, keyboard, ukulele, trumpet, cornet, trombone, euphonium, flute or clarinet. Schools who did not participate in the Wider Opportunities scheme, or those who would like Learning Music Together delivered on a different instrument, will need to fund and purchase the required instruments as these cannot be provided by Music Cornwall. If you are interested in offering Learning Music Together at your school, please contact us.
